CameraSend us your favorite Appalachian mission trip photos and join us in celebrating Ten Years of Volunteer Missions in Appalachia.

This past year Appalachian Regional Ministry celebrated its Tenth Anniversary as a partnership ministry. To celebrate what God has done through ARM, at our display during the Southern Baptist Convention's annual meeting in Orlando, Florida in June, we want to do a display banner of volunteers serving in Appalachia. If you or your church have been on a mission trip to Appalachia, please send us your digital picture and a short explanation of who you are and where you were serving. Pictures not selected for the wall will be put in a continuous slide presentation at the display booth. Please send your digital photo in a reproducible quality, to

Photos from Christmas in August 2008

The WMU is doing an article about Christmas in August 2008 and Appalachian Regional Ministry.  If you or your church, the WMU, GAs, CiAs, or another mission group in your church participated, we would like a digital photo (at least 1 MB in size) and a brief description of who is in the photo.

  • Photos’ showing your group collecting items.

  • Photos’ showing what was in your box.

  • If you delivered the items to a church or ministry center, a photo showing the recipients of the gifts.

  • Any related photo that will give readers (kids) a sense of what impact this had on your group.

Photos are needed by February 19, 2010. Please send your digital photos, to bbarker@arministry.org or arm.missionary@gmail.net

One MSC Missionary Couple is Making a Difference

Jim Davis

How many times have you heard the phrase “one man can make a difference?”  You probably have heard it many times, and here I am saying it again . . . “One man can make a difference,” but this time I want to tell you not about a man but a couple who are making a difference in Oceana, West Virginia.   When I think of Jim and Grace Davis, I am reminded of the hymn ...

The FBI issued a warning about Relief Fraud.

“The FBI reminds Internet users who receive appeals to donate money in the aftermath of Tuesday's earthquake in Haiti to apply a critical eye and do their due diligence before responding to those requests. Past tragedies and natural disasters have prompted individuals with criminal intent to solicit contributions purportedly for a charitable organization and/or a good cause.” The guidelines from the FBI include:

  • Do not respond to any unsolicited (SPAM) incoming emails, including clicking links contained within those messages.

  • Be skeptical of individuals representing themselves as surviving victims or officials asking for donations via e-mail or social networking sites.

  • Verify the legitimacy of nonprofit organizations confirming the group's existence and its nonprofit status rather than following a purported link to the site.

  • Be cautious of e-mails that claim to show pictures of the disaster areas in attached files. The files may contain viruses. Only open attachments from know senders.

  • Make contributions directly to known organizations to ensure contributions are received and used for intended purposes.

  • Do not give your personal or financial information to anyone who solicits contributions: Providing such information may compromise your identity and make you vulnerable to identity theft.

The State Department has set up a help line for individuals seeking information about family members in Haiti. The toll-free number to call is 1 888 407-4747. The State Department advises that some callers may receive a recording because of the heavy volume of calls.
